This is one of the best resources for singlespeed and fixed gear calculations. It also includes your skid patch (sounds like a personal problem), gear ratio, gear inch and much more. Looks like the stock 32(front ring)X 20 (rear cog) on my 29'er is not gonna be tall enough and will have me spinning like crazy. Check out the speed colume when you change the rear cog to a 18 or 16. That's a cool chart. So, if I'm riding a single speed 29'er with a 32-18 up an 8 degree slope at an average speed of 12 mph and with a 45 degree wind speed of 15 and at an ambient temperature of 68 degrees, should I ride at a cadence of 96 or at a cadence of 100? Maybe I'll try to split the difference at 50/50 and ride a cadence of 98, especially if the wind kicks up to a blustery 14, which it always seems to do. BTW, if anybody knows how to get the skid patch completely out of new $219 bib shorts, lemme know.
Stain Stick and Simple Green outta do the trick on that skid patch. Just wait till I post the wattage chart!
